Alai Payuthey is a drama Thai TV series which is based on the novel, "The Naming of Names" by Italo Calvino. It was first aired on Channel 3 in Thailand on October 12th. The show will be broadcasted Monday-Thursday at 18:00 with the last episode airing at 22:30 daily. The story follows Udayan who is an unemployed engineer and his daughter Piya who has autism and memory problems. They also have a young farmhand named Bhoot to help them out around their house as well as run small parts of their fields to provide for themselves. The show also includes a mysterious woman named Wan as well as Piya's aunt's friend Ketki who comes to visit from America. Piya has a special ability she can see into the future and dreams often of the past. It is revealed that Udayan has a dark past and his daughter suffers from autism because he once had a relationship with an animist girl named Noi whom was later married off to her stepfather. He has held onto her memory until she finally appears before him again. The show is directed by Panakorn Tantijit and written by Thongchai Keeratihuttayakorn. The show stars Nirut Sirijanya as Udayan, Poowin Bunyingmark as Piya, Vithaya Pansringarm as Ketki, Nantida Tengannunt as Noi, Tantarat Soilairatikul as Wan. Nirut got involved with the project not because of the script but because he wanted to work on a project with Poowin after his starring role in "Sood Sood Rose" (2008). Poowin was given the role of Piya after Nirut requested her to take on the part. Nirut participated in helping to choose the rest of the cast. The show broadcast its pilot episode on the 28th of September and the first 3 episodes were broadcasted on the 12th of October. The pilot episode was re-aired for free at Rajamangala Institute of Technology (RIT) and other campuses across Bangkok. Pandawadee Rungnoppakul is said to be working with producer Thongchai Keeratihuttayakorn to create a Thai drama that centers around issues surrounding children with autism, self identity and relationships. Pandawadee's daughter Panyut, who has autism herself, helped write for this drama as well as other autistic Thai people. The show was nominated for Best Drama at the annual National Film Awards in Thailand in 2009.
In December 2016, it was announced that the International Emmy Awards had selected "Alai Payuthey" as one of the category's four contenders from a field of 999 entries.

The series is dubbed into many languages including English, French and Spanish, Indonesian, Arabic and Portuguese. The Indonesian title is "Alai Alai", which means "Clear Future" in Bahasa Indonesia. The series is broadcast on Fox TV with English subtitles but has yet to be broadcast or released in any other countries.
